Cancer Screening Services These services are available to women who do not need birth control due to menopause, tubal ligation, or hysterectomy. A physical exam including pap test and breast exam is provided by a nurse. Cholesterol screening and random blood sugar may be provided if indicated. Breast self-exam instruction and counseling on the risk of smoking is provided. S creening Mammogram Referral Screening mammograms based upon American Cancer Society recommendations are provided to low income women. The fee for this service is based upon income and number in household. Breast Cancer Program This is a community education program, which provides information to the communities on early detection and prevention of breast cancer. This program targets women ages 40 to 69. This program holds annual screening events in each county. The breast cancer awareness program is constantly providing education to the community and community groups. The goal for this program is to provided education to all groups of women, from all walks of life, to help in eradication of breast cancer in Kentucky’s women. Colorectal Cancer Screening This program is grant funded and has a goal of reaching a target group of men and women ages 50 and older. The main goal is to educate the public and increase the number of colorectal screenings that are done. This program also educates the public on the effectiveness of the Fecal Occult Blood Testing (FOBT) versus the other colorectal screening available. The FOBT has been proven to be just as effective in detecting colorectal cancer as the other forms of screening. This service is provided at all the local health departments in the Gateway District. The colorectal cancer prevention program will also be holding screening events in all four counties.

The work includes installing insulation, sealing the exterior, repairing ducts, and replacing heating equipment where necessary. It is common for a family to save as much as $500 in utility bill costs in the year following the retrofit, depending on the household’s usage habits and unit prices for the region. Weatherization provides home assistance to income eligible individuals and disabled individuals residing in unsafe and substandard housing. Work includes heat unit safety inspections, maintenance and replacement, insulation, weatherstripping and minor repair to doors and windows. The purpose of this program is to help clients save on fuel costs. Licking Valley Community Action Program

Licking Valley Community Action Program provides child abuse prevention services in ten counties Bath, Bracken, Fleming, Lewis, Mason, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Robertson, and Rowan counties. The program, called Community Collaboration for Children, helps families reduce the likelihood of abuse or neglect through education, referral, support, and even financial assistance. Families benefit from the services of a trained in-home therapist who provides parenting, financial literacy, and nutrition education according to the family’s need. The therapist may help identify other community resources the family needs such as employment, post-secondary education, mental health, or primary health services. In addition to in-home therapy, staff organize Regional Councils to promote child abuse prevention activities in the region. The Councils meet monthly and include guest speakers, training, and networking activities. New participants are always welcome.

Licking Valley Community Action Program

Each county features a community services office where families can receive a variety of services that are designed to help low income families manage their resources; reduce expenses; and develop the skills to become self-reliant. Most services have specific eligibility guidelines. Services are individualized according to a family’s unique situation and may include such services as: Emergency (Crisis) Assistance: Crisis services may include food, medical assistance, housing assistance, utility assistance, or clothing. An Emergency Food Pantry is located in each county to assist eligible individuals with nutritional needs. Nutrition Assistance: Community Services staff help families with food security through emergency food pantries located in each center and through monthly Commodity distribution. Energy Assistance: LVCAP has a variety of energy assistance programs that can help families with their energy costs. Eligibility guidelines differ by program, and different programs operate in specific times of the year. Employment Services: Assistance with education and employment is arranged for adults or youth to improve economic security. Services may include educational assistance (books, tuition, or GED testing fees). Weatherization: Community Services staff help families apply for Weatherization Assistance, which provides energy and safety- related home repairs.

Licking Valley Community Action operates a comprehensive transportation services that provides non-emergency medical transportation throughout the region and to medical facilities in Kentucky and Ohio. In addition, LVCAP provides public transportation, Title III-B Elderly Transportation and Non-Emergency Medical Transportation services. Riders with a medical card may have their trip cost subsidized or paid completely. Human Services Transportation Delivery Human Services Transportation Delivery- provides transportation services to the eligible clients in Bracken, Fleming, Lewis, Mason and Robertson counties. Riders who want to schedule transportation services should contact us during our normal office hours of Monday through Friday from 8:00am – 4:30pm and Saturday from 8:00am – 1:00pm local time. All trips not considered “urgent care” must be scheduled 72 hours in advance After hours paging is available, including Sundays and State Holidays, for immediate or “urgent care” transportation.
